About the website
I am Jonathan White and this is my website. With it I aim to provide thoughts, ideas and resources for digital and information literacy practitioners in education. This includes teachers, lecturers, librarians, learning technologists and other professionals supporting learning and teaching. Initially the website will be home to my blog on digital and information literacy, but over time I plan to publish my teaching resources with creative commons licenses to enable practitioners to download, use and adapt them for their teaching.
My expertise is in digital literacies and digital skills development. I am a qualified and experienced trainer and librarian. Since 2006, I have worked in the Secondary, Further Education and, currently, Higher Education sectors in the UK, supporting and delivering learning and teaching in digital and information literacies, and learning technologies. I am currently based within the Centre for Student Life at the University of Derby where I work as part of a team of professionals to support the development of a digital and information literacy framework across the University and to support students, researchers and academic staff in developing and utilising these skills.
I received my Masters from Loughborough University with a thesis on the teaching of IT skills in public libraries and framed my PGCE (Lifelong Learning Sector) work around the teaching of information literacy skills at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology. I am a member of the Society for Education and Training (SET) and of the Chartered institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP). I was previously an editor for the information literacy website, which is run by the Information Literacy Group of CILIP.
